I.Dues and Membership
1. Membership registration and waiver / release form must be completed and signed by each
participant.
2. Fees are: $45.00 - Two Week Ride
3. Persons under 16 years of age must have a signed parental or guardianship release letter to
participate. Younger children must be chaperoned by an adult at all times.
II. Trail Riders
1. During the trail ride, all riders must display Mission Trail Ride Buttons.
2. Each rider must furnish his/her own sleeping accommodations, tack, and all other related equipment.
3. Each rider must furnish his/her own horse at all times during the trail ride.
4. All riders will exhibit the highest standard of conduct during the entire ride.
5. There will be no public display of drinking during trail riding hours or during the HLSR parade.
6. Western style clothing such as cowboy hats, boots, jeans, etc., must be worn on the trail ride. This
Trail ride represents the spirit of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and the eyes of the public are on you throughout the entire ride.
7. No double riding is allowed at anytime during the trail ride or parade.
8. No firearms are allowed on the trail ride. Any infraction of this rule is grounds for immediate
removal from the ride.
9. No participant of the trail ride may ride a stallion after Feb 19, 2010.
10. No horses or mules measuring under 48" will be allowed on the ride.
11. Littering along the trail route or at any campsite is strictly prohibited.
III. General Regulations
1. Commercial advertising is not permitted on any vehicle, wagon, or animal on the ride.
2. The following requirements must be met and documentation presented for all horses participating in the trail ride:
A valid veterinary certificate of inspection (Health Certificate) issued within 30 days prior to the start of the trail ride. A completed VS Form 10-11(coggins) showing negative results to an official EIA test within the previous six (6) months or a certificate of veterinary inspection and a completed VS Form 10-11 showing negative results to an official EIA test within the past 12 months.
3. It is strongly recommended that all horses have non-skid shoes.
4. It is strongly recommended that the following vaccinations be administered at 30 days
prior to the trail ride:
A. Equine Influenza (FLU)
B. Strep Equi (Strangles)
C.Rhinopheumonitis (Rhino)
5. The following are also recommended for the protection of your animal:
A. Tetanus Toxoid vaccination within the previous year.
B. Rabies vaccination within the previous year.
C. Deworming - At least three weeks but not more than two months .
6. All horses and mules will be treated humanely during the entire trail ride. All animals shall be rested, fed and watered in a proper manner.
7. THE TRAILBOSS AND ASSISTANT TRAILBOSSES MANAGE THIS RIDE. THEY HAVE THE ULTIMATE RESPONSABILITY AND AUTHORITY FOR DECISIONS MADE REGARDING THE HEALTH, SAFETY, AND WELFARE OF THE RIDE.
IV. Wagon Regulations
1. All wagons should be ready 15 minutes prior to departure time of the day's ride.
2. The Wagon Boss is responsible for his wagon and its contingent of riders.
3. All participating wagons should attempt to make the entire two week ride.
4. Either the Wagon Boss or his assistant should be with the wagon at all times while the team is hitched up to the wagon..
5. Each wagon should be equipped with brakes and a breeching harness.
6. No rubber-tired wagons are allowed on the trail ride after of Feb 19th 2009.
7. All wagons must stay in line at all times and in number order as of Feb 19th 2009.
8. It is strongly recommend that each wagon carry liability insurance.
V. Camp Regulations
1. All trail riders are responsible for the cleanliness of their particular camping area. Garbage bags
should be necessary equipment for all trail riders.
2. Vehicular traffic will be monitor at the campsite area after the arrival of the trail ride.
3. All horses and mules will be tied to a secure tie-down ring or stake each night. Each rider/mule
skinner is responsible for his/her stakes and tie ropes. Horses and mules shall not be secured for the night in any other manner or fashion.
4. This is a family-oriented trail ride. No unsavory language will be allowed at the campsites.
5. Any participant violating any of these rules may be removed from the trail ride and prohibited from
participating in future events or trail rides.
VI. Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Parade Rules
1. Riders must ride six abreast behind their assigned wagon.
2. No double riding at any time.
3. No throwing of objects from wagon or horseback during parade.
4. No Alcoholic beverages of any kind are allowed in the possession of any rider.
5. No riding on grassy areas or yards coming out of Memorial Park.
6. No stallions in the park. Violators will be removed and denied return privileges.
7. Each individual riding in a parade wagon must wear his or her individual membership button.
