The Fort Bend County Vaqueros Trail Riders will present scholarship awards to outstanding students from public high schools within Fort Bend and its two contiguous counties, Brazoria and Harris.
AMOUNT AND NUMBER OF AWARDS
The number of scholarship awards to be made will be determined annually The majority of the scholarship awards will be one-year awards, these are paid in two installments for the fall and spring semesters.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Applications are furnished by the Fort Bend County Vaqueros Trail Riders upon request through members of the FBCV. Applications should be completed in full and returned with all required documentation to the Fort Bend County Vaqueros Trail Riders, 4701 Lucille Houston, Texas 77026 By the application postmark deadline of APRIL 15, 2009
APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, an applicant must meet criteria of residence, academic standing, college/university enrollment plans, demonstration of leadership, character, and economic need.
Residency: The applicant must attend an accredited public high school, which is within the defined geographical three county areas of Harris, Brazoria, and Fort Bend.
Academic Standing: The applicant must be a graduating senior and should be ranked in the upper half of his/her graduating class at the completion of the first grading period of his/her senior year. This ranking is to be verified as part of the official transcript or by an accompanying certification from an appropriate school official. Applicants who do not rank in the upper half of their graduating class must score a minimum of 800 on the SAT or 17 on the ACT in order to apply for the scholarship. These scores must be indicated on the application and verified either on the applicant's transcript or with a separate record of the scores, which is attached.
Graduation: The applicant must graduate at the end of the spring semester immediately following the awarding of the scholarship.
College Entrance Examination: The applicant must had taken either the SAT or ACT College entrance examination and furnish proof of the test score. Proof of the score may be a part of the official transcript, or a copy of official test results should be attached to the application. The information should reflect the date the test was taken. Applications will not be accepted without SAT or ACT scores.
Collegiate Acceptance/Enrollment: The applicant must enroll in either a college or university within the confines of the United States and participate in a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree. Applicant must indicate choice of major and career planned.
Activities: Leadership potential and character of the applicant should be demonstrated through an applicant's responses to the categories of the application detailing school, extracurricular and community activities and achievements. Personal references should provide additional information as well.
Narrative: Each applicant must include a narrative on no more than two, 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of paper. Here, the applicant should supply any information, which he/she feels is necessary for proper consideration. Special emphasis should be made to describe applicant's goals and financial need.
Documentation: Each application must be accompanied by an official transcript showing academic average and grading scale through four years of high school, class size and official ranking of applicant and references. Incomplete applications will not be accepted for consideration and will be returnedto the applicant.They may be resubmitted,but must bereceived no later than theApril 30, 2009 deadline. No extensionswill be given. Complete applications accepted for consideration will not be returned.
Deadline: Applications must be postmarked byApril 15, 2009 of the calendar year in which the scholarship is to be awarded. Applications should be mailed to theFort Bend County Vaqueros Trail Riders, 4701 Lucille Houston, TX 77026.
If eligible, applicants for the Fort Bend County Vaqueros Trail Riders Scholarship may also apply for other available scholarships. In the event a Vaquero recipient was selected to receive any other available award, the Vaquero award would not be forfeited.
EVALUATION PROCEDURE: For the purpose of evaluation of applicants, Fort Bend County Vaqueros Trail Riders Scholarship Committee will review all properly completed applications. Incomplete applications will not be considered. From the applications received, the Scholarship Committee will choose the award recipients.
PAYMENT OF STIPEND: It is the responsibility of the scholarship recipient to notify the Fort Bend County Vaqueros Trail Riders of the address of the Financial Aid Office at the college or university to be attended. This notice must be given a minimum of thirty (30) days prior to the beginning of each semester. Payment of the scholarship will be made directly to the Financial Aid Office at the rate of 50%of the total scholarship award paid per semester in which the recipient is enrolled for 12 or more semester hours and is in good standing academically. To maintain eligibility, the recipient must comply with all scholarship policies. A copy of these policies will be furnished to each recipient upon notification of receiving the award.
